Form definition settings

You can make adjustments to a current form definition in the Form definition settings dialog. To access this dialog:

  1. Using the Manager, select Edit ð Form definition settings. (If the command is disabled, open the form definition.)

The only required activities are checking for errors and changing the status of a form definition. Error messages are displayed, and you must correct them before activating the form definition.

To see the other options, click Advanced.

Setting

Description

Export forms to image files

Saves images to image files during scanning. (Export form images when scanned must also be specified in the Scan job description.)  Read more about exporting form images.

Note: This setting is now selected by default when a new form definition is created to avoid having to remember to select it if the Scan-job option mentioned above is used.

Do not verify forms

Bypasses Verify and uses only external validation and verification. All fields and forms receive Complete status after interpretation, regardless of the result of the interpretation.

You access the data via an event handler or use Transfer to send the output data to another system for verification.

Check for global field displacement

Adjusts for field displacement caused by filling in forms with a matrix printer. Read more about global field displacement.

Activate handwriting style context

Select this option if the whole form is very likely to be filled in by the same person. This helps Interpret to meet challenges that stem from variations in handwriting style, and interpretation improves.

Do not select this option if occasional forms are not filled in by the same person, because interpretation of such forms is worsened.

This option is not related to Handwriting style, below.

Use custom view in Verify

Uses a custom view that you designed for the form definition.

Batch report layout file

Links a batch report layout file that you created for processing forms in batches to the current form definition. Type the name of the batch report layout file in the box or click Select to navigate to the file.

Character set

The characters the program should expect in forms of this type. (Greek is an exception, and Arabic numbers require you to perform an extra step.)

The default character set is the one specified in Ehglobal.ini. New character sets can be defined, and existing ones can be edited. How?

Note: Your choice affects only Interpret. Using Verify, you can type characters that are not included in the character set.

Handwriting style

The handwriting style the program should expect in forms of this type. (GRE for Greek handwriting is an exception, and Arabic numbers require you to perform an extra step.)

Handwriting generally looks different in different countries. This setting affects how FORMS expects handwritten characters to be shaped, based on research on handwriting in different countries.

The default handwriting style is the one specified in Ehglobal.ini.

This option is not related to Activate handwriting style context, above.

Identification

Opens the Identification settings for current form definition dialog, where you can view the current settings.

The Events button

Opens the Events dialog, where you can implement external routines on the form level.

The Appendices button

Specifies that forms include appendices.

The Image filters button

Opens the Image filters dialog, where you can select image filtering operations to be performed on images.

There are four points at which you can select such filters. When you access the Image filters dialog from this point, the filters you select apply to the form definition.

The Color conversion button

Opens the Color conversion dialog, where you can optimize settings that convert the image from color or grayscale to black and white.

Only useful when you are creating a form definition based on a color or grayscale image.

Important: If you want to modify the color conversion settings, you must do so before defining any fields.
