Verifying fields

The Field menu in Verify has these commands for handling individual fields as you verify them:

Command

Details

Edit

Edits the values for the selected field. The keyboard shortcut is F5.

Complement

Adds or edit a field complement for the current field, regardless of whether or not it is included in any field definition. The keyboard shortcut is F6. More info.

Clear

Clears the value for a field. The keyboard shortcut is F8.

Delete

Deletes a field. The keyboard shortcut is F9.

When you delete a field, it is as if that field were not filled in on the form.

After using this command, you must confirm the deletion by clicking OK in a message box (or pressing Enter on your keyboard), unless you deselect Delete field in the Confirmations dialog.

This command is not available when you are fast-verifying unknown characters.

Delete index chain

Deletes an indexed series of fields. The chain deleted is the one that the currently active field belongs to.

When you delete an index chain, it is as if none of the fields in that series were filled in on the form.

Skip

Disregards the current field for the time being. The status of the field is not changed, so it reappears the next time you run the job. The keyboard shortcut is F10.

Previous field

Moves backwards one field.

Override to complete

Overrides the validation criteria defined for the field, and forces FORMS to accept data.

Tip: If you see a box that FORMS mistakenly interpreted as not filled in, you can add it by double-clicking it.
