Applying a Compression Format

Use this procedure to set the image compression format, which reduces file sizes and the space required to store files.

For example, a full page of uncompressed text scanned at 300 DPI might require 1 MB of storage space. The same page compressed using CCITT Group 3 (1 dimensional) might require only 80-100 KB for storage.

The availability of compression formats depends on the active file type selection.

If you use Configure Sources on the Administration Console Scanner Configuration panel to set the TIFF JPEG Style, the setting does not apply to images scanned in Kofax VRS Test Console. To select equivalent settings within Kofax VRS Test Console, use JPEG (same as Kofax Classic) or JPEG (Technical Note 2) as the compression format.

  1. On the Scan Settings tab, in the File group, verify that you have set a file type.
  2. On the Scan Settings tab, in the File group, click Compression.

A list of compression formats appears.

  3. On the list, click a compression format for the selected file type.
