Manage layout classification
Layout classification looks at the physical layout of a document to determine its classification result, and content classification uses the text recognition results of a document to determine its classification result.
By default, layout classification is enabled for all solutions.
Layout classification is ideal for forms and documents with a consistent structure. For example, forms, applications, and receipts.
The types of classification available for a solution is relevant for all document types. If you have at least one document type the is layout-based, then layout classification is required.
Enable layout classification
Use this procedure to enable layout classification.
- Select the Settings menu on the ribbon.
- Select Processing.
-
In the group, configure the following settings.
Setting
Description
Enabled
Set to Yes to use layout classification to classify layout-based documents. (Default: Yes)
Layout classification requires 2 to 5 training documents.
Scope
Available only when Enabled is set to Yes.
Specify how layout classification is determined. Choose from the following values:
- Classify first page only:
-
Select to use the first page of a document only for layout classification. If the first page cannot be classified the document remains unclassified. (Default)
- Classify each page:
-
Select to process each page in sequence, of a multi-page document for layout classification. Classification ends when a page is classified. If no pages are classified the document remains unclassified.
Minimum confidence (%)
The minimum threshold for a layout classification result to be considered confident. (Default: 70)
- Optional. Save your solution.
-
If not already in place, add user-defined or predefined document types
-
Optional. Perform classification accuracy
Disable layout classification
If your solution has no layout-based documents, disable layout classification to skip that step in the classification process. Instead, you can use content classification, generative AI classification, or both.
- Select the Settings menu on the ribbon.
- Select Processing.
- In the group, set Enabled to No.
- Thoroughly test your classification results to ensure that disabling layout classification does not cause unexpected classification problems.
