PDF Setup Window - OCR Tab

Use the OCR tab to produce searchable PDF files. Using the Languages list, specify the languages in which the PDFs should be searchable. For each language selected, you can search the PDF using the applicable character set.

To ensure optimal OCR results, be sure that Auto Rotate is active on the Scan Settings tab.

The settings that you apply on the OCR tab do not affect the preview image in the dual viewer.

Converts the PDF files to a highly compressed format; otherwise, standard compression is applied.

In the dual viewer, the original image appears alongside the highly compressed image.

Languages

Sets the languages in which the PDF files are searchable. By default, Kofax Express selects the language associated with the regional locale of your Windows operating system. The more languages you select, the more potential there is to impact performance.

Fast mode

Fast Mode

Increases the speed of the OCR process. On some computers, increased speed may adversely affect OCR accuracy.

Image over text

Image over Text

Saves the entire image as a picture, and the text is saved "under" the picture. This option is useful if you export text to document archives; the full page layout is retained and the full-text search is available. Image over Text is the default setting.

Text over image

Text over Image

Saves the entire image as a picture, and the text areas are saved "on top" of the image. With this setting, the full page layout is not retained.
