Editable Text Block Question

An Editable Text Block Question enables the end user to edit text content with layout. The end user can choose to edit an existing Text Block or enter entirely new text. The answer to this Editable Text Block Question contains a reference to the Text Block content entered by the end user. The Master Template developer can use this reference with the Master Template language keyword Text_Block. The answer can also be used as the default value of a subsequent Editable Text Block Question.

When you add an Editable Text Block Question, the Add item - Editable Text Block Question panel appears, prompting to specify two required properties: Question text and Answer field. Only after filling out these required fields, you can edit the question further.

In some properties, such as Question text, Help text, or Default answer, you can also use Fields as part of the value. The Add field option is available when you create a new answer or edit an existing one.

The Editable Text Block Question has the following properties:

Question text

The Question text field displays the question to the end user. You can use HTML syntax to format this text.

Read-only

Select this option to make the question read-only. When the Form is filled out, the default answer is displayed, and the user cannot change this value.

Answer field

An Answer field is used to store answers to questions. This field can be used in the Master Template document. Click Select to select the location to save the answer to this particular question. The available answer fields are shown in a drop-down list. The list of available Answer fields can be configured in KCM Repository with the assistance of Field Sets.

Help text

Help text can be added to a question to provide additional information to the end user. By default, an info icon is displayed next to the question. If the end user moves the pointer over this info icon, the help text appears. Use HTML syntax to format this text.

Default answer

The following default answers to an Editable Text Block Question can be defined:

  • None.

The end user is prompted to enter an entirely new text content.

  • Text Block. Select a Text Block or a Rich Text Block from the list. A preview of the selected Text Block or Rich Text Block is shown. Click to pop out the preview window.
The preview functionality is designed to give a general idea of the resulting Text Block or Rich Text Block. To see what the result is going to look like, you can test the object. Also, as the preview functionality is based on the supported browser or plugin in use, the way the previewed content is shown may vary.

The end user is prompted to edit the content of the selected Text Block or Rich Text Block.

  • From Field. Select a Field. This Field should contain a reference to an existing Text Block. This Field can also contain the answer to a previous Editable Text Block Question.

The end user is prompted to edit the content of the referenced existing Text Block. The changes made by the end user are only available during the same KCM Master Template run and they are not stored. For information on how to store the user-entered content of Editable Text Block Questions, see the function import_text_block in the Kofax Communications ManagerTemplate Scripting Language Guide.

When a default Text Block is set, the end user can enter Fields from a list of Available Field Sets during a Master Template run. The same Field Sets are available when the Text Block is edited in KCM Repository. When no default Text Block is set, no Field Sets are available respectively. If you want to have Field Sets available for an empty Text Block, create an empty Text Block in KCM Repository and use it as default.

Advanced

This feature is for advanced users only. We recommend that you do not enter or change IDs on this tab unless you are aware of the implications.

Every question in a Form is associated with a unique identifier (ID). If Question IDs are not present in a Form, they are automatically generated when a Form is saved. You can change such an ID manually on this tab. For more information, see the "Integration" chapter in the Kofax Communications Manager Core Developer's Guide
