Edit Data Backbone
Navigate to and click Edit in the View and Edit pane to open the Data Definition Editor.
In a project that contains documents in DOC format, you can edit Data Backbone only in KCM Designer for Windows.
Alternatively, you can right-click the Data Backbone item in the navigation pane on the left and select the Edit command from the context menu.
When you start editing Data Backbone, it automatically becomes locked for other users. To unlock, right-click the Data Backbone item in the navigation pane on the left and select he Unlock command from the context menu.
The Data Definition Editor consists of two sections:
- Source Editor
Here you can edit the data definitions that make up the Data Backbone. The content is displayed in .txt format only. For more information on data definitions, refer to the Data Backbone section of the Kofax Communications Manager Template Scripting Language Developer's Guide.
The edited data definitions are always saved in .txt format. Data Definition Editor always converts the .docx format to .txt for editing, but if you exit the editor without saving the changes, the conversion is not applied.
- Tree View /
Errors
By default, this section displays a read-only tree view of the Data Backbone. You can expand and collapse the sections of the tree to see the whole structure. You can hide the Tree View view by clicking the Hide Tree View button.
To see the updated tree view after you have made changes to the data definitions in the Source Editor, click the Refresh button. If there are any errors in the data definitions, this action also switches the section to Errors view.
In Errors view, you will see the editor view of the data definitions with error messages in the corresponding places. You can hide the Error view by clicking the Hide Errors button.
If your data definitions are invalid, you can download a .doc/.docx document that describes the errors by clicking the Download error document button in the error message that appears on the Data Backbone page.
To save the changes you have made to the data definitions without closing the Data Definition Editor, click the Save button.
To save the changes and exit the Data Definition Editor, click the Save & Close button.
