Channels and output formats
A channel defines which output formats to produce for the slots of a Document Pack Template. Output formats can be configured separately for the Cover letter slot and other slots.
KCM has two predefined channels.
-
Word channel: Produces Word and XML output for all slots.
-
HTML channel: Produces HTML and XML output for all slots.
You can also create custom channels in Batch & Output Management and import them into the KCM Repository with the LoadOutputManagementMetadata command-line tool. For more information about the tool, see the Load Batch & Output Management metadata section in the Kofax Communications Manager Repository Administrator's Guide. For more information about setting up channels, see Define a channel section in the Kofax Communications Manager Batch & Output Management Getting Started Guide.
When KCM composes a Document Template from a particular project, it produces a Document Pack in which the slots have output for all the channels enabled for this project. The output consists of alternative representations of the slot in the configured output formats. Document Packs produce no output for the channels not enabled for the project.
The configuration of output channels affects only those slots from Document Pack Templates that are Document Templates. All other slots, such as static documents, imported documents, or Quick Templates, are not affected and have a fixed output format, not altered by channels.
