Create a new project

With KCM Designer, you can create a new project or upload and import an existing project.

Create a project in KCM Designer

To create a new project in KCM Designer, follow these steps:

  1. Use either of the following options to initiate the project creation:
    1. Click the New Project button in the toolbar.
    2. Select the New Project option from the context menu of the project group.
    3. Select the New Project option from the Details pane of the project group.

A new dialog window will appear.

  2. Fill in the name of the project, (optionally) change the project group, and click OK.

The name of the project cannot contain any of the following characters:

    : ? / < > * " | \ ( ) .

A new project will appear in the indicated project group.

If you don't specify the project group, the project will be added to the Not grouped project group. If the group name that you specify doesn't exist yet, it will be created along with the project.

The name of the project group cannot contain any of the following characters:

    : ; ? / < > * " | \ ( ) [ ] { } @ # $ % & + = . ,

The user who creates the project is granted the Administrator rights on this project.

If the user doesn't have the right to create projects, this option is not available to the user in the KCM Designer UI.

Upload and import a project to KCM Designer

Import function is only available for users with the "Allow login as Admin" right. This permission can be assigned through KCM Designer for Windows. For more information, see the Kofax Communications Manager Repository Administrator's Guide.

Runtime errors may occur when importing a project that is currently in use. It is recommended to import such a project during its non-production hours.
  1. To go to the dashboard, from the KCM Designer main window, click the navigation arrow icon and then click Dashboard.
  2. On the dashboard, click Import Project.
  3. Click Choose a file, browse to the project to import, and click Open.

The maximum supported size of the import file is currently limited by available memory but typically is around 100 MB. For larger imports, use the RepositoryImportProject command described in the Kofax Communications Manager Core Scripting Language Developer’s Guide.

  4. After the file is uploaded, enter a name for the project and click Import.
A notification appears when the project is imported to KCM Designer. It will appear in KCM Designer. The following rules apply:
    • If you try to import a project with the name that coincides with the already existing project, you are prompted to overwrite the existing project.

    • If an active project stored in the repository has active external changesets, this project cannot be overwritten and an error message appears. With active internal changesets, no error happens and the project is overwritten.

You may need to refresh KCM Designer to see changes you have applied. To do so, on the toolbar, click the round arrow icon.
