Insert existing pages

If you insert pages into a PDF already containing Bates stamping, it is not applied to the new pages.

Insert Pages icon

  1. Select Home > Insert > Insert from file on the ribbon, or Insert from a context menu or from the Options drop-down list on the Pages panel.

    The file open dialog box appears.

  2. Move to the preferred folder.
  3. Select one or more files and click Open.

    If you select non-PDF files, they are converted to PDF before insertion.

  4. In the Insert Pages dialog box, click Add to select more files from other folders.
  5. Select an insert location and (in the case of a single contributing file) source pages, a target page, then click OK.

Insert blank pages

  1. On the Pages panel, select New from a context menu or from the Options drop-down list, or select Home > Insert > Insert Blank Page on the ribbon.
  2. In the New Pages dialog box, select size, orientation and location options.
  3. Define how many blank pages you want to add, then click OK.

Delete pages

If you delete, move, or copy pages, the Bates stamping will no longer be consecutive.

  1. Do any of the following:
    • On the ribbon, select Home > Delete.
    • On the Pages panel, select Delete from the context menu or from the Options drop-down list.
    • On the Pages panel toolbar, click Delete. In this case, only a confirmation dialog box appears instead of the Delete Pages dialog box.
  2. In the Delete Pages dialog box, select current page, a page range or specified pages.
    • Current Page

    • Range

    • Selected

  3. Click OK, then confirm to proceed with the deletion.

    Deletion cannot be undone.

Crop pages

With cropping you can remove part of the page area. The file size will not be reduced.

Be careful not to remove Bates stamps when cropping pages.

If you want to keep the original file, save it then save it as a renamed file and perform the cropping there.

  1. Click the Crop tool on the Edit tab of the ribbon.

    The mouse pointer turns to a crosshair.

  2. Draw a rectangle to enclose the desired page part and click Crop again.

    Alternatively, cropping can also be initiated from the Options drop-down list in the Pages panel. In this case, the Crop Pages dialog box appears instantly; draw the crop rectangle in the page preview.

    The Crop Pages dialog box appears.

  3. You can resize the rectangle in the preview area, and select options on the right.
    Example:
    • Use the Remove White Margins option, for instance to trim presentation slides converted to PDF.
    • Select to crop the current page, selected pages or the whole document.
  4. Click OK.

Undo icon

Use the Undo button at the left of the Edit ribbon if the result is not satisfactory.

Copy or Move pages

If you delete, move, or copy pages, the Bates stamping will no longer be consecutive.

Proceed with the preferred steps to move or copy pages using the Page panel. For copying or moving pages between documents, open both documents in a separate window, with their Pages panel active.

If a document is already opened on a tab, right-click on the tab title, then select the Open in New Instance command to move the document to a separate window.

  • To copy pages within a document, press and hold the ⌘Command key while dragging the page thumbnails to a new location.

    Verify that the plus sign appears while dragging thumbnails as you are copying pages.

  • To copy pages between documents, drag the page thumbnails to a new location.

    Verify that the plus sign appears while dragging thumbnails as you are copying pages.

  • To move pages within a document, drag the page thumbnails to a new location.
  • To move pages between documents, press and hold the ⌘Command key while dragging the page thumbnails.

Rotate pages

This command is different from View > Rotate View Clockwise or Rotate View Counterclockwise, which only temporarily displays a rotated page. See Rotate View for details.

  1. Do any of the following:
    • On the Pages panel, select Rotate from a shortcut menu.
    • On the Pages panel, select Rotate from the Options drop-down list.
    • On the ribbon, select Home > Advanced.

    The Rotate Pages dialog box appears.

  2. Select a Rotate Angle (90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise, or 180 degrees) and a page range.
  3. Click OK. This rotation becomes permanent when you save the document.

Rotate objects using the Rotate Clockwise and Rotate Counterclockwise shortcut menu commands or by clicking the Home > Rotate Left and Rotate Right commands on the ribbon. For a free rotation, use the object handle as it is described in the "Edit" topic.

Extract Pages

You can extract one or more pages from a PDF document.

To extract selected pages, select the required page thumbnails on the Pages panel before opening this dialog box.

  1. Do any of the following:
    • On the Pages panel, select Extract from a shortcut menu.
    • On the Pages panel, select Extract from the Options drop-down list.
    • On the ribbon, select Home > Extract.
  2. Select which page or page range to extract.
    • Current Page
    • Range
    • Selected
  3. Optionally, select Delete After Extraction, if you do not need these extracted pages in your original document any more. They will be deleted from the document.
  4. Optionally, select Extract Pages As Separate Files to save all pages as a separate PDF file. The output file names contain the original file name with a page number suffix.

You may not be able to extract pages from a protected PDF file. Select Security > Manage Security and select Modify from the drop-down list to see the security settings of the current document.

You can also extract pages using Home > Split. That lets you define pages to be extracted not only by page range, but also by a text search, by a bookmark or a bookmark level. See Split for details.
