Advanced search panel

On the Basic toolbar, select Advanced Search () tool to open the Advanced Search panel. Select the tool again to hide the panel. The scope is the active document. The panel includes options for customizing your search. Type the text to search, then select Search after adjusting the options and settings.

• Under Search for, select how to search.

  • Single word or phrase

  • Multiple words or phrases: When searching for multiple words, separate words and phrases with two spaces.

  • Fuzzy search: Similar to popular search engines, the Fuzzy Search feature supports a flexible search experience. Use Fuzzy Search to quickly locate information, even if you are unsure about which terms to include in the search string. You can enter a single word, multiple words, partial words, or even misspelled words, and the results will include both exact matches and approximate results.

    • Fuzzy Search can identify words even if they contain a missing or mistyped letter. For instance, entering "ntworks" in the search box will yield results for the word "networks".

    • When searching for multiple words, Fuzzy Search evaluates each word individually and may display partial matches, or results that are similar to the intended search terms.

  • Looks Like Search(TM) Pattern: Instead of typing the text to search for, select from the list of pre-defined patterns, such as US Social Security numbers, phone numbers, credit card numbers, email addresses, and dates. This option disables the search settings detailed below.

• Search settings appear under the search box.

  • Highlight all text: Applies colors to the search results.

  • Match case: Finds only the words that match the spelling and capitalization you type in the Search box. For example, if you search for the word "Internet", the words "INTERNET" and "internet" are not found.

  • Match whole word only: Finds only the complete word that matches the word you type in the Search box. For example, if you search for the word "trace", "race" and "tracer" are not found.

  • Include comments: Searches comments along with the text content of your document.

  • Include bookmarks: Searches bookmarks along with the text content of your document.
