Add password
To secure the active document:

On the Security toolbar, select Add
Password (
).
The Add Password dialog box appears.

In the Compatibility list, select the preferred PDF
standard and encryption level.
The latest standard provides the strongest encryption for better protection, while earlier ones are more compatible.
- In the Encrypt setting list, select the scope of encryption.

Optionally, select Require a password to open the
document to protect document opening with a password.
- In the Open password box, type your password.

In the Confirm password box, repeat the same
password.
Passwords must match to complete the operation.

Optionally, select Set a permissions password to restrict document
editing to prevent printing and editing. Open and permissions
passwords cannot be the same.
- In the Permissions password box, type your password.

In the Confirm password box, repeat the same
password.
Passwords must match to complete the operation.
- In the Printing permitted list, select the printing quality to grant with the permissions password.
- In the Changes permitted list, select the scope of operation to grant with the open password.
- Optionally, select Enable copying of text, images, and other content to allow users to extract the content using the clipboard.
- Optionally, select Allow accessibility (screen readers can access text for the visually impaired) to grant access to screen readers for reading aloud.
- Select OK.
After a confirmation and warning message, the progress dialog box appears while creating the password-protected version of the document. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the download.
