Make a PDF searchable

To make a document searchable and editable:

  1. Select the Convert > Make PDF Searchable (OCR icon) tool.
The Make PDF Searchable dialog box appears.
  2. Specify the Page range by selecting one of the options.
    • All pages: Processes each page in the document.
    • Specify pages: List the page numbers separated by a comma, or add ranges using a dash.

      For example: 1,2,6-11

  3. Select Auto-orient pages to let Power PDF automatically select page orientation (landscape or portrait) for each page.
  4. In the PDF type list, select one of the following:
    • Searchable: The text can be searched or indexed by editors or internet search engines.
    • Searchable and editable: Searchable and blocks of text can be edited.
    • MRC PDF document: Creates a non-searchable PDF with MRC compression.
    • Searchable MRC: Creates a searchable PDF file with MRC compression.
  5. If applicable, select a compression level in the MRC compression list. Remember that image quality and file size have a direct relationship. The higher the compression, the smaller the file will be, with reduced image quality.
    • Minimal: Select to achieve the smallest file size while the image quality is lower.
    • Good: Select to reduce file size while keeping a good image quality.
    • Superb: Select to reduce file size as much as possible without degrading the image quality. This produces the best possible image quality.
  6. In the Language to recognize list, select the document language.

    Restrictions:

    • Asian and European languages cannot be selected together.
    • If you select one of the following languages, you cannot select any other language with it.
      • Japanese

      • Korean

      • Simplified Chinese

      • Traditional Chinese

      • Arabic

      • Thai

  7. Alternatively, select Automatic language detection if you tried a language but the result was not accurate.
  8. Select OK to start the OCR process.
