Advanced Processing tab
Use the Advanced Processing tab to access controls and settings that extend PDF functionality.
To find tools on tabs, see "Ribbon, tabs and panels" or use the search box in the Help menu.
Process tools
Flatten File: Transform annotations into document objects,
remove or merge layers, and make other changes as detailed in Flatten
Document.
Index: Create full text indexes for a set of PDF files. You can
also Embed an existing
index into the current document.
Reduce: Reduce one or more files by balancing image quality and
file size.
Split: Split the current document based on the specified
criteria.
Read Aloud tools
Read
This Page: Read all text content on the current page
using the speech service of macOS.
Read To
End: Read from the start of the current page to the end of the
document.
Pause: Active only during read-aloud. Click to stop the
playback momentarily, then click again to resume.
Rate Up: Click to speed up the reading.
Rate Down: Click to slow down the reading.

Make Searchable: Transforms Image-only PDF files or files
with image-only parts containing scanned text to a searchable
PDF. It does this by running OCR (Optical Character
Recognition) on the image-only parts to create or supplement the document's text
layer.
Click the tool, then select a command from the drop down:
- Current File: Runs OCR on the active document only. See "Turn a PDF with image-only parts to searchable in Power PDF" for details.
- Multiple Files: In the OCR Text Recognition dialog box, add files or folders to the list. Click Settings to adjust PDF type, language and other options. Click OK to start to process the file list.
