Validate tables

Tables contain rows and columns of extracted data, and one or more table cells may have validation errors. If there is an error on a table cell, the table has an invalid icon displayed in its top-right corner. This indicates that you need to validate one or more table cells.

The Table toolbar enables you to validate a table by ensuring the correct information is provided. You can add, delete and interpolate table rows as necessary.

Settings Name and Description

Delete Row

Removes the selected row from the table. This setting is only enabled when you select a row. You cannot undo this setting.

Add Row

Adds an empty row to the bottom of the table.

Insert Row At Current Position

Inserts an empty row above the selected row.

Interpolate Rows

Attempts to automatically complete a table that you have partially completed manually, with the keyboard and mouse.

Force Table Valid

Overrides an invalid table and forces it to be valid. This setting is only available for empty tables.

You can select multiple rows using the mouse by holding Ctrl while you click the mouse.

In order to validate a table, you might find the following features useful:

  • You can resize the columns in a table to better view cell data. You can also use the scrollbar to better view larger tables.

  • You can use the Tab key to enter table edit mode and then the Arrow keys to move between table cells.

  • Valid cells are highlighted green, while invalid cells are red, read-only cells are gray, and the active cell is yellow.

  • If for any reason, you cannot validate a table cell, you may be able to override it. If a table cell is overridden, the error icon is removed.

  • If you cannot validate a table, you can override the entire table and force it to be valid. This setting is only available for empty tables.

If you edit a table cell and then move to a different table cell or field on the document, the contents are displayed in italic and the Edited Cell icon Edited Cell icon is overlaid on top of the cell. If you do not validate the table immediately by pressing Enter, this italic text means you can continue updating the rest of the document without losing track of any table cells you have edited. Once the table field is validated, the italic text reverts to normal text, and edited table cells are either marked green if they are valid, or red if they remain invalid.

Validating table cells is similar to validating text fields.

You can validate a table by following these steps:

  1. Open a document with one or more validation errors with tables.
  2. Select the table cell you want to validate with your mouse.

Alternatively, use the Tab key to enter table edit mode and then the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys to navigate to the desired table cell.

If the table is on the document, the selected table cell and its corresponding row is highlighted in the Document Viewer.

  3. Type the correct value for the cell or use the mouse to click or lasso the correct text.
  4. Press Enter to send the table field to the Thin Client Server for validation.

If you edit a table cell and do not press Enter to initiate the validation process with the Thin Client Server straight away, the contents of that table cell are displayed in italic text when you navigate to a different cell. The next time you add a row, remove a row, or press Enter for a cell, all modified cells are sent for validation at that point.

If the field is valid, it turns green on the image, and the next invalid field or table cell automatically loads.

If the field fails validation, the field remains invalid.
