Multiple selection to edit inherited fields

If you want to make a change to more than one inherited simple fields, rather than editing them one at a time, you can use the multiple selection tool. To simplify locating and selecting these fields, a shortcut menu setting is available for quick selection. This enables you to edit the parent class field as well as all of the inherited fields in a single location. This also includes any fields where the inheritance has been interrupted.

Folder fields are also inherited by any child folders, but these inherited folder fields are read-only. Because of this, there is no shortcut menu item to display the inherited folder fields. This does not mean that you cannot select multiple folder fields by pressing Ctrl and clicking on the inherited fields, you just cannot edit them.

You can edit inherited field details by following these steps:

  1. Expand the Project Tree and select the parent class that has inherited classes and fields.
  2. Optionally, view the class contents if they are not already displayed.

The hidden class contents are displayed.

  3. Open the Details window if it is not already open.
  4. In the parent class, right-click a field and click Select Inherited Fields.

The selected field and all of its inherited fields are displayed in the Details window in an editable grid.

  5. Edit the field grid as necessary. You can either modify the field formatting settings or select a different method to populate an inherited field. Selecting a new locator method interrupts the inheritance relationship.

All changes made here are saved automatically.

  6. Thoroughly test your project to ensure that any changes to inherited fields behave as expected.
