Test classification

Use the procedure in this topic to test classification. Successful classification is the most important part of a DocAI solution. If a document is not classified, no extraction is performed. To ensure your solution performs as expected, use a separate set of test documents to test classification for both configurable and predefined document types. Test documents are marked with the icon to differentiate them from training documents.

For the best results, add only enough training documents to ensure consistent classification results. It is possible to have a document type that classifies successfully, even if it has an orange training circle. This is especially true for most predefined document types. A smaller number of training documents is also useful for field extraction.

Before you begin

Before you test classification, verify that the following steps are complete:

Procedure

  1. On the Documents menu, select a configurable or predefined document type.
  2. Select one of the test documents and select Test.

Classification is performed for the selected test document against all document types in your solution.

The result is displayed, indicating the classification results.

    Icon

    Description

The document was classified successfully to the selected document type.

The document could not be classified to any document type in your solution.

The document was classified incorrectly to another document type in your solution.

  3. Test the rest of the test documents.

If all documents are classified successfully, testing is complete.

If one or more documents fail to classify correctly, continue to the next steps.

  4. Optional. Delete any sample documents of poor quality or that are not valid examples of the current document type.
  5. Examine the thumbnails or view the Full screen of the Training Documents and compare them with your Test Documents. If the layout of a document that failed classification differs from the samples in the Training Documents, drag that thumbnail to the Training Documents. Alternatively, select Move to training documents.

Similarly, if one of your training documents is not suitable, either Delete it or drag that thumbnail to the Test Documents.

  6. Select Train.

Your updated training documents are trained, and classification results for any previously tested test documents are reset.

  7. Test your documents again.
  8. Repeat steps 3 to 7 until all test documents for this and other document types are successfully classified.
