Setting up to scan from the Thin Client

You can scan from the Thin Client from any TWAIN-compatible scanner connected directly to your computer. Make sure that the necessary drivers and software are installed for your scanner. To use Kofax VRS, make sure that VRS is properly installed and configured for your scanner.

The first time you scan or change scanner settings, you are prompted to install the Kofax Web Capture Service. A similar prompt appears if your version of Kofax Web Capture Service is out of date. Kofax Web Capture Service is a Windows service. To disable or uninstall the Kofax Web Capture Service, go to the Windows Control Panel and use the Programs and Features option.

To install the Kofax Web Capture Service:

  1. Log on to your computer as a user with administrator rights and verify that you have NET Framework 4.7 installed.

  2. Follow the on-screen prompts.

    A status bar tracks the process of the installation.

To set up scanning:

  1. In the Create/Edit Jobs window, click Settings.

    You may experience a delay while the Kofax Web Capture Service detects the scanners connected to your computer. The Scan Settings window opens.

  2. Select the scanner to use or the option to scan from Kofax VRS, which enhances image quality.

    If the scanner you want to use does not appear in the list, verify that the scanner is turned on, is accessible to the computer, and has the necessary drivers and software installed.

  3. Select settings for scanning the job.

    Several options provide additional control over scanning, image quality, and size.

    • Maximize Quality over Speed: If you select Black and White or Grayscale, selecting Maximize Quality over Speed scans the image in color and then converts it to your Color Mode selection at the server. This should result in a better quality image, but may also result in greater network traffic and slower processing time. If you do not select this option, the image is scanned using your Black and White or Grayscale selection, which results in a smaller image size and faster network traffic.

    • Ignore Background Color: Use this option to ignore the background color of a page that is otherwise black and white. This option is available when you select Automatic in the Color Mode field.

    • Scan from Device Vendor Dialog: Use this option to initiate scanning from the TWAIN user interface. When you select this option, other image options in the Scan Settings window are unavailable and ignored.

    Other options that appear, such as DPI, color, paper size, and so forth, are based on the selected scanner.

  4. To save your selected settings, click OK.

    The Scan Settings window closes.

    To close the Scan Settings window without accepting the changes, click Cancel.
