-
PDF/A-1a compliant: Supports long-term storage of digital documents and fully satisfies the requirements in the ISO 19005-1 specification. Readable by any PDF reader that conforms to PDF 1.4, or later.
-
PDF/A-2a compliant: Offers the same level of compliance as PDF/A-1a, and adds support for JPEG 2000 compression to generate reduced file sizes. Satisfies the requirements in the ISO 19005-2 specification. Readable by any PDF reader that conforms to PDF 1.7.
-
PDF/A-2b compliant: Offers the same level of compliance as PDF/A-2a, and adds improved conformance with guidelines for reliable viewing.
-
PDF/A-2u compliant: Offers the same level of compliance as PDF/A-2a, and adds the ability to extract text in Unicode.
-
PDF/A-3a compliant: Permits the embedding of another PDF/A file or a binary file format (such as XML or Microsoft Office) within the PDF/A file. Satisfies the requirements in the ISO 19005-3 specification. Otherwise, the same as PDF/A-2a.
With PDF/A-3a compliance, only the PDF/A file, rather than any embedded file, should be considered for archiving purposes.
-
PDF/A-3b compliant: Offers the same level of compliance as PDF/A-2b and allows file inclusion in the PDF document. The attachments can be kept in their original form, such as .xlsx files (Excel).
-
PDF/A-3u compliant: Offers the same level of compliance as PDF/A-3a, and adds the ability to extract text in Unicode.
-
PDF/UA-1 compliant: PDF/UA-1 offers a constrained form of Adobe PDF 1.7 (as defined in ISO 32000-1) intended to ensure accessibility and support for assistive technology, such as screen readers.
-
PDF/UA-2 compliant: PDF/UA-2 is the successor of PDF/UA-1 and is based on PDF 2.0. The PDF 2.0 tags as well as structure namespaces can be used, and the strict PDF 2.0 tag nesting rules apply to PDF/UA-2.
Image Resolution
Set the resolution of the images for the PDF document being saved as an output file. You can select from the following output resolutions in dots per inch:
-
Original
-
72
-
100
-
150
-
200
-
300
If necessary, you can improve image quality results by increasing the resolution setting from the default resolution. The maximum setting that can be implemented is equal to the original image resolution value. For example, if the original image resolution of the scanned page is 200 dpi and the resolution is set to 300 dpi, the image resolution of the output file is 200 dpi rather than 300 dpi.
Black and White Image Format
Specify the format for black and white images:
-
JBIG2 (default)
-
CCITT4
Color / Grayscale Image Format
Specify the format for color and grayscale images:
-
JPEG2000 (default)
-
JPEG
Color Image Quality
Specify the quality of color and grayscale images. The quality level impacts the size of the output file.
-
Minimal (default)
-
Good
-
Lossless
Document Properties
Encryption Algorithm
Specify an RC4 or AES encryption algorithm if you want to encrypt the metadata in the PDF output file. By default, no algorithm is selected.
-
None (default)
-
40 bit RC4
-
128 bit RC4
-
128 bit AES
-
256 bit AES
When you select an encryption algorithm, you must enter a Document Open password, a Document Permissions password, or both, as described below. The other options within Document Properties are also enabled.
Document Open password
Use this field to enter a password that a user can type to open and view the encrypted PDF.
The Document Open password must be between 4 and 32 characters in length, cannot include spaces, and must be different from the Document Permissions password if you include one.
Document Permissions password
Use this field to enter a master password that allows you to open and view the encrypted PDF, and change or remove any restrictions you may have specified in the PDF through the use of the Document Properties check boxes listed below.
The Document Permissions password must be between 4 and 32 characters in length, cannot include spaces, and must be different from the Document Open password if you include one.

Page Content
Select the structure of the PDF pages generated by the PDF Image + Text recognition engine:
-
Text Over Image: The recognized text is saved over the entire page image. The entire image is saved as a bitmap and text areas are saved as text (with full text search capability) over the bitmap. You can select and copy any of the text.
-
Text Under Image: The recognized text is saved under the entire page image. This is the default selection. The entire image is saved as a bitmap with text placed beneath it. This option is useful if you export your text to document archives. The full page layout is retained and full text search is available. You can select and copy from the underlying text. This option tends to produce a larger output file than the Text Over Image option.
