Standard vs. Enhanced Bar Code Engines

Kofax VRS includes a Standard Bar Code engine that can read 1D bar codes in bitonal images.

Kofax VRS also includes two Enhanced Bar Code (EBC) engines:

  • Kofax EBC engine (default)

  • OmniPage

The OmniPage EBC engine is available as an option for users who aren't satisfied with the accuracy of the default Kofax EBC engine.

These EBC engines can read 1D and 2D bar codes in color, grayscale, and bitonal images.

Because color images provide more information to assist in bar code interpretation, the EBC engines can achieve more accurate readings of all supported bar code types at low dpi levels and varying levels of quality. The EBC engines work with grayscale images and support bitonal recognition and two-dimensional (2D) bar codes.
