Use handwritten signatures

You can place a handwritten signature in your document. It behaves as an object, which you can customize using Sign & Mark or Edit Object.

Handwritten signatures do not provide security; therefore, they do not appear in the Signatures and Sign / Certify panels. Click the Sign (Sign icon) or Certify (Certify icon) tool to place digital signatures that provide security.

Select Security > Sign and Certify > Sign & Mark and from the Sign & Mark context-sensitive tab that appears, click Manage Signatures to show the handwritten signatures you have created. Buttons below the list let you add a new signature, delete or rename an existing one, and select which signature should be the default (indicated with a check mark to the left of the name).

To sign a document using a signing pad, signature image file, and more, see Sign a document with Kofax SignDoc - Signature.

Create a handwritten signature

  1. Select Security > Sign and Certify > Sign & Mark.

The Sign & Mark context-sensitive tab appears.

  2. Click Manage Signatures to open the Add a Signature dialog box.

The Handwritten Signature command opens the same dialog box if you do not have any handwritten signatures saved yet.

  3. Select a creation method for the signature from the list box. The following part of the dialog box changes depending on your choice:
    • Draw my signature: Set a color and line width, then draw the signature in the panel provided.

    • Type my signature: Select a font, color and attributes, then type the signature text in the edit box.

    • Import an image as my signature: Scan your signature to an image file and browse to locate the file. This is the recommended choice.

  4. When the signature is defined, name it.
  5. Click OK.

The signature recently created is not placed automatically in your current document; you need to place it manually.

Place an existing handwritten signature

  1. Select Security > Sign and Certify > Sign & Mark.
  2. Click Handwritten Signature.

If you do not have any handwritten signatures saved yet, the Add a signature dialog box appears. Create and save your new signature, then click OK.

  3. When the mouse pointer becomes a crosshair, click anywhere in the PDF document to place the signature.

If you have multiple handwritten signatures, clicking Handwritten Signature places the default signature in the document.

Click the signature area to reveal its borders and handles. You can drag the signature to another position.

Customize handwritten signatures

To customize an inserted handwritten signature, do one of the following:

  • Click Security > Sign and Certify > Sign & Mark and select the inserted signature. With this, you can proportionately resize and modify the color and opacity of the signature.
  • Click Edit > Modify > Edit Object, select the inserted signature, and then select an option from the context-sensitive Tools tab that appears.

To remove the handwritten signature, right-click the object and click Delete or press Del after selecting the object.

Selecting Security > Remove Elements removes the signature attribute of your handwritten signature. After that, it no longer functions as a signature, and can only be modified using Edit Object.
