Troubleshooting: "Scanner driver could not be loaded" – standby mode and scanner switched off

Many scanners have an energy-saving function. If the scanner is not used for a certain number of minutes, it switches to standby. Usually, you can see the status of your scanner by looking at its display.

If SCAN CLIENT is still running when the scanner switches to standby mode, an error message is displayed when you try to continue scanning. Example:

An error occurred while loading the scan driver. Please check whether scanner INOTECP is connected and online.

This can also happen if the scanner was switched off or if the scanner is not connected to the scan workstation. (In the case of ScaMax 401 CD scanners, which do not have an energy-saving function, this is always the reason.)

Solution

  1. Confirm the message by clicking OK. The next error message is displayed: "Unable to find SCSI module; check cable and power. [4536]."

  2. Again, confirm by clicking OK. Now SCAN CLIENT is displayed, but without scan profiles and without scanner driver information.

  3. To reestablish contact with the scanner, switch it on using the power button. Check cables and other contacts.

  4. Select Scanner > Source > Scanner source. The available scanner drivers are loaded. (If this is not possible, restart the scan workstation and try again.)

  5. Select your scanner driver and click OK.
