Configuring barcode detection

Detected barcode values are attached to scanned images as metadata and can be used for document and batch separation as well as for naming batches.

Use this procedure to detect barcodes in the batches that are scanned using the selected scan profile. The barcodes that are found can then be used for either of those purposes.

  1. Select Scan profiles > Scan profile management. The Scan profile management dialog is displayed.

  2. In the left pane, select a scan profile.

  3. In the right pane, double-click Barcode detection. The IP configuration dialog is displayed.

  4. In the left pane, double-click Barcode Detection to copy it to the right pane.

  5. Click the Configure filter icon (). This opens the Barcode Detection – Settings dialog.

  6. Select the type of barcode that will be used. (See Supported barcodes.)

Warning: The more barcode types are selected, the slower scanning will proceed.

  7. Specify the orientation of the barcode(s).

  8. If the barcode results are decoded into readable strings, select Decode Symbol.

  9. If the last character in the barcode value is used as a check digit (checksum) and should not be included in the result, select Use Checksum.

  10. If barcodes are extracted poorly, select Enhanced Mode.

Additional image preprocessing is performed, which can provide better results. However, the analyzing process is slower.

  11. Click OK to close the Barcode Detection – Settings dialog.

  12. Repeat steps 4 – 11 for different barcode configurations, if needed.

  13. Click OK to close the IP configuration dialog.
