Exporting and importing scan profiles

Closed

Scan profiles can be exported (saved as XML files in the file system) for backup, for transfer to another system, or for restoring lost scan profiles.

Scanner settings are also exported during this process, and can be imported or restored either together with the scan profile settings or independent of them.

Note: You must be an administrator to do this.

To export scan profiles

  1. Scan profiles are exported for the currently selected scanner. If multiple scanners are connected, select the scanner whose scan profiles you want to export:

    1. Switch the scanner on so that the scanner driver is detected by SCAN CLIENT.

    2. Select Scanner > Source > Scanner source.

    3. In the dialog that is displayed, select an available scanner and click OK.

Tip: It is possible to skip the scanning step during testing.

  2. Select Scan profiles > Scan profile management. The Scan profile management dialog is displayed.

  3. Select File > Export Scan profiles for connected scanner.

  4. Specify where to save the export file.

The export file name is composed as follows:

    1. Domain and name of the workstation from which the profile was exported.

    2. Name of the database server.

    3. Name of the database.

    4. Type of scanner.

    Example: Domain@workstation_server_database_scanner.spr

  5. Click OK. A message confirming successful export is displayed.

To import scan profiles

Use this procedure to restore or import scan profiles from a previously created export file. It does not matter which scanner is currently selected.

  1. Select Scan profiles > Scan profile management. The Scan profile management dialog is displayed.

  2. Select File > Import scan profiles.

  3. Open a previously saved scan profile file (extension spr).

  4. The overview shows a list of the scan profiles contained in the file. Their color indicates whether the connected database contains a scan profile with that name:

    • Black: The database does not yet contain a scan profile with this name.

    • Orange: The database contains a scan profile with this name.

Select a scan profile and click Import.

  5. If you selected a scan profile that already exists in the database, the Scan profile import options dialog is displayed so that you can provide more information. You can overwrite the existing scan profile, add to it, or you can import the scan profile with a different name.

  6. Optional: If the existing settings are to be overwritten, you can select which of the settings are to be adopted. Those options are described here.

If you only want to import the scanner settings, deselect () all of the optional items and leave only Scanner driver master settings selected ().

  7. Click Import.
