Closing batches automatically when they are complete

Closed

When you want to scan multiple batches without interruption, you can set scan profiles to close batches automatically.

Exceptions:

  • The last batch is never closed automatically, but must always be closed manually.

  • Batches with errors (for example errors in barcode detection) are not closed automatically.

  • Batches with scanner error information saved to their batch data (see step 5 below) are not closed automatically.

Note: You must be an administrator to do this.

Note: Barcodes must be used for batch separation (see instructions).

Use this procedure

  1. Select Scan profiles > Scan profile management. The Scan profile management dialog is displayed.

  2. In the left pane, right-click a scan profile and select Export configuration to open the Export settings dialog.

  3. Select Export batch while scanning.

  4. Click OK to save the settings.

  5. Recommended: Include scanner error info in batch data.

If Stop scanning () is clicked during scanning

Multiple batches are scanned. During this process, the Stop scanning button () is clicked. What happens?

  • All of the completely scanned batches are automatically closed and are given Ready status (or Export ok, if the batches are exported by asynchronous custom components).

  • The stopped batch can be edited.

If scanning is interrupted by an empty paper feeder, or if scanning is manually ended, then the most recently scanned batch is also closed automatically if you select Continue scanning (not Continue scanning from a specific position) and further batches are then generated by barcode detection.

Examples:

The above image shows a scan process in which 11 batches are created using barcode separation.

  • Example 1: The scanner stops at the fourth (red) batch due to an empty paper feeder or because the scan operator clicks Stop scanning. Then Continue scanning is used once on the fourth batch, and further batches are created using barcode separation. In this case, the fourth batch is closed automatically.

  • Example 2: In the fourth batch the barcode is not read properly during scanning, so an error message is written to the batch. In this case the fourth batch is not closed automatically.

  • Example 3: In the fourth batch scanning is interrupted by a double feed (two pages drawn into the scanner at the same time). SCAN CLIENT is configured to write an error message to the batch or sheet. (That is, Add scan error info to batch data is selected in the Batch settings.) In this case the fourth batch is not closed automatically.

The last batch (blue) is never closed automatically.
