Troubleshooting: The scanner is slower than expected
Manufacturers usually specify scanner speeds in ppm (pages per minute). These speeds usually refer to the physical maximum speed of the scanner and are only reached under certain conditions. In addition to the connected scanner, the following are decisive for workstation performance:
-
Format of the image files (color, grayscale, or black & white). See Specifying an output format for image files.
-
Resolution of the image files (for example 200 DPI or 300 DPI).
-
Number of image media per sheet (multi-stream).
-
Connection speed (network, USB, SCSI, Firewire, etc.).
-
Performance of the scan computer.
-
Performance of the file server where image files are stored.
-
Use of image processing or analyzing programs (barcode detection, blank page detection, etc.).
-
Synchronous calls of custom components.
-
Configuration of SCAN CLIENT (for example whether images are displayed and whether the batch tree is updated dynamically).
-
Additional programs on the workstation (for example virus scanners and firewall) – particularly with InoTec network scanners.
-
Scanner driver.
