Set up details

The following fields are displayed on the Details: Step 1 of 3 screen.

  1. Manager name: Enter a name for the content manager (such as Access, PDF, Excel).
  2. Select the Type from the list. The Type tells PSIsafe Desktop what program to launch by associating a file extension with a common purpose. Ten different content types are available:

    • Audio: Any type of audio file such as MP3 or WAV.
    • Electronic Form: Adobe PDF Forms with fillable form fields.
    • Hyper Text: A web page (HTML, MHT, XML).
    • Image: Any type of image file (TIFF, JPG, PNG).
    • Text: Any plain text file (TXT).
    • Video: Any type of video file (MP4, MOV, AVI).
    • Word-processing: Any type of electronic document created by a word processor or a spreadsheet program (DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX).
    • Message: A Microsoft Outlook file (MSG).
    • Word Merge: A specific type of Word (DOCX) document that uses the Microsoft Word Merge functions to link PSIsafe Desktop folder indexes to Word Merge fields.
    • Other: Any other content type that does not fit the categories above.

Click Disable to disable the content manager.
  3. Input the file extension this content manager will control in the Extensions field. You can enter multiple extensions for the same manager. For example, an image manager can view TIFF, JPG, and PNG, and many other common file types.

Enter the extension name and click Add.

To remove an extension from the list, click the extension on the list and click Remove.
  4. Programs:
The entries in these fields apply globally to all users by default, unless specified otherwise in a local manager.

In Microsoft Windows, under Control Panel > Default programs, extensions are associated with specific application paths on your connected drives. To start the program associated in Windows default programs, click Use Windows File Association.

To specify the path location instead, keep in mind that this location must be the same on all workstations attempting to access your PSIsafe Desktop installation. Type the path, such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Company\Program\Program.exe, and the manager will be associated with the .exe file in this location.

  5. Parameters: Specify any parameters that need to be defined for the manager to launch the program properly. Parameters allow multiple documents to be opened in the same program. The following is a list of available parameters and their popular counterparts:

    • Microsoft Word - /W
    • Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader - /N
    • Outlook - /F
    • Excel - /X
