Recognition engines

Recognition engines are responsible for performing optical character recognition (OCR) on documents for classification and extraction purposes.

Installing Kofax TotalAgility installs the following recognition engines automatically.

  • ABBYY FineReader 12.2

Important The FineReader recognition engine will be deprecated in the next release of Kofax TotalAgility. As a result, Kofax recommends that you use the OmniPage recognition profile for both page and zone recognition for all new projects. If you have existing projects that use one or more FineReader profiles, it is also recommended that you modify those projects to use a comparable OmniPage profile.
  • RecoStar 7.8 by Open Text Document Technologies GmbH.

Important The RecoStar recognition engine will be deprecated in the next release of Kofax TotalAgility. As a result, Kofax recommends that you use the OmniPage recognition profile for both page and zone recognition for all new projects. If you have existing projects that use one or more RecoStar profiles, it is also recommended that you modify those projects to use a comparable OmniPage profile.
  • Nuance OmniPage 21.0

  • The Kofax Clarity recognition engine, although this requires an additional license.

Customizing the Kofax TotalAgility installation enables installing the following recognition engines that are licensed separately.

See the Kofax TotalAgility - Installation Guide for more information about installing these recognition engines.

ABBYY FineReader 12.2 additionally supports the recognition of Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK).

Note In order to make full use of the CJK languages, you must install the required Asian Languages on your operating system.
