Settings tab - Properties of Bar Code Locator window
The
Bar Code Locator extracts bar code data from documents. Some documents contain bar codes that are
attached to a form during the scanning process as a stamp or sticker. Other documents contain bar codes as part of the document
itself. The
Bar Code Locator can locate the most common bar code types automatically, even if they are rotated or
inverted.
Use the following settings to enhance bar code recognition:
- Bar Code Type
-
This group contains a list of bar code types. At least one bar code type is required. (Default: Auto detect)
Use the default value only if you do not know the expected bar code types. This is because the Auto detect value negatively impacts the performance and accuracy of bar code recognition and includes only a subset of the full list of available bar code types.
For the best results, select one or more specific bar code types from this list and then use the page number or a region to narrow down the bar code location. This ensures that recognition is more likely to find a bar code. If you are recognizing multiple bar codes in multiple locations, use a separate Bar Code Locator for each bar code, restricting the search area using specific page numbers and regions.
When Auto detect is selected, all other bar code types are unavailable. If you clear the Auto detect value, select one or more of the bar code types. When testing the locator, any recognized bar codes are displayed on the Test tab along with their bar code type, confidence, value, and page location.
You can select only one of the Code 39 or Code 39 without start/stop character bar code types.
- Bar Code Settings
- The following settings are available to further configure bar codes:
- Min. length to avoid 1D misrecognition
-
Set minimum length of a valid bar code. This ensures that bar codes with a shorter length are not included in the recognition results. (Default: 3)
This setting is not related to the Min. length setting on the General tab. The Min. length setting filters the recognition results based on its value, whereas this setting does not include bar codes in the recognition results unless they have the specified length.
- Enable 1D bar code checksum
-
Helps reduce errors if the bar code is misinterpreted. (Default: Cleared)
- Remove 2D bar code noise on image
-
Removes any noise on the image around a 2D bar code. (Default: Cleared)
- High Accuracy
-
When selected, bar code extraction uses high accuracy, prioritizing accuracy over performance. The Bar Code Type list includes high accuracy bar code types. (Default: Selected)
When cleared, no high accuracy is performed and performance is prioritized over accuracy. Also, the Data Matrix High Accuracy, PDF417 High Accuracy, and QR High Accuracy bar code types are no longer available in the "Bar Code Type" list. If these high accuracy bar code types are selected when this "High Accuracy" setting is cleared, the three high accuracy bar codes are reverted to their non-high-accuracy versions.
-
"Data Matrix High Accuracy" reverts to "Data Matrix"
-
"PDF417 High Accuracy" reverts to "PDF417"
-
"QR High Accuracy" reverts to "QR"
