Work with windows

There are several ways you can work with windows to customize the Transformation Designer user interface.

Use the procedures in the following table to work with windows.

Action

Description

Open a window

If a window is closed or is not displayed by default, you can open it when needed.

  1. In the main Transformation Designer window, hide or close any windows that block the Ribbon.

  2. In the View tab, in the Windows group, select a window.

    The selected window is displayed.

  3. Optional. View additional windows.

Close a window

If you require more space within the main Transformation Designer window for configuring your project, you can close one or more windows to allow the window you are currently working on to have more space. Also, you can close a window if you are finished working with it and it is no longer needed.

  1. Select X in the top-right corner to close a window.

    The window is closed.

  2. Optional. Close additional window

Float a window

If you want to work on a window outside of the main Transformation Designer window so you have more space, you can float it so it is a stand-alone window. This enables you to move the floated window to a second monitor.

  1. In the main Transformation Designer window, hide or close any windows that block the Ribbon.

  2. On the title bar of the window to be floated, select the Window Position icon.

    A secondary menu is displayed.

  3. On the menu, select Float.

The docked window is floated as a stand-alone window that can be moved anywhere on your screen.

Even though the newly floated window behaves like a stand-alone window, it does not are displayed in the task bar. This means that you cannot minimize a floated window and it always stays active when the main Transformation Designer window is active.

Dock a window

If you have floated a window so it is a stand-alone window outside of the main Transformation Designer window, you can dock that window back to the Transformation Designer window.

You can choose to dock a window in one of the following positions:

  • Across the entire top of the Transformation Designer window
  • Fill the entire left side of the Transformation Designer window
  • Fill the entire right side of the Transformation Designer window
  • Across the entire bottom of the Transformation Designer window
  • Across the top of an existing window so the two windows share the existing space
  • On the left of an existing window so the two windows share the existing space
  • On the right of an existing window so the two windows share the existing space
  • Across the bottom of an existing window so the two windows share the existing space
  • Share the full space an existing window so the two windows are tabs using the same space

These positions are available for the main Transformation Designer window, or within an individual docked window. If you dock a window within another docked window, those two windows need to share the same space, so each automatically takes half of the available space. You can choose to resize one of these windows, or if space is at a premium, it may be better to put those windows into separate tabs.

If you do put your windows into tabs, ensure that none of the tabs need to be open at the same time as this can cause problems when trying to work on the two windows simultaneously.

  1. Select the window you are docking and drag it over the Transformation Designer window. When you are happy with the docking position, release the window.

When attempting to dock a window, the dragged window activates a map-like positioning system. Dragging the floating window to different areas within the Transformation Designer window highlights different areas where the window can be docked.

The stand-alone window is now docked within the Transformation Designer window at the selected location.

  2. Optional. Dock other windows.

Hide a window

If you do not currently require a window, but use it regularly, rather than closing it, you can hide it within the Transformation Designer window.

  1. On the title bar of the window you want to hide, select Auto Hide Auto Hide icon.

The window is now hidden, and a tab is available at the bottom or side of the Transformation Designer window to access that window.

  2. Optional. Select the tab to open the window.

The window is displayed overtop of other existing windows and hidden again when you select anywhere outside of the hidden window. The Auto Hide icon Auto Hide icon has changed to indicate this new behavior.

Selecting Auto Hide a second time restores the hidden window to its original docked location.
