Work with field groups

Use the procedure in this topic to work with the field groups in your project.

Field group names must be unique for a class and its child classes. If you enter a name that is used by another field group within that class or any of its child class, an error message is displayed.

Procedure

  1. Open the Project Tree window if it is not already open.
  2. Expand the Project Tree and select a class.
  3. Depending on your requirements, do one of the following:

    Action

    Steps

    Add a field group

    1. On the Design tab, in the Create group, select Add Field Group Add Instruction icon.

A field group with a default name is added to the Project Tree and displays that Field Group in the Details window.

    2. Optional. Rename the field group, following the supported naming conventions.

The field group name is updated in the Project Tree.

    3. Optional. Add or move fields to your new field group.

    Rename a field group

    1. In the class, select the field group to rename.

    2. On the Design tab, in the Edit group, select Rename Rename icon.

The field group name in the Project Tree is now editable.

    3. Optional. Rename the field group, following the supported naming conventions.

The field group name is updated in the Project Tree.

    Delete a field group

If a field group is no longer needed in the project, it is best practice to remove it rather than let it clutter up your project.

    1. In the class, select the field group to delete.

    2. On the Design tab, in the Edit group, select Delete Delete icon.

If there are any fields in the selected field group, these are deleted as well. If you want to delete the field group but not the fields, move them to another field group beforehand.

    3. When prompted, select OK to confirm the field group deletion.

The selected field group and all of its fields are deleted from the project.

  4. Save the changes to your project.
