Standard validation method
Use the Standard validation method to restrict the length and number of characters in a field.
Configure a standard validation method
- On the Type list, select Standard. (Default: Regular expression)
-
Configure the following
Options.
Rule makes uncertain extraction results valid
If selected, overrides the execution of validation rules when a field is not extracted confidently or has been modified. (Default: Clear)
Check for minimum length
If selected, lets you enter or select the minimum number of characters allowed for the result. If an extracted result is shorter than the minimum length, the field is marked as invalid. (Default: Clear. If selected, the default is 1.)
Check for maximum length
If selected, lets you enter or select the maximum number of characters allowed for the result. If the extracted result is longer than the maximum length, the field is marked as invalid. (Default: Clear. If selected, the default is 10.)
Restrict allowed character set
If selected, lets you enter the characters that are allowed in the result.
If a field contains characters other than the restricted set, the field is marked invalid and needs review by a validation operator. (Default: Clear)
Define unallowed characters
If selected, lets you enter the characters that are not allowed in the result. (Default: Clear)
If a result contains one of these characters, the field is marked as invalid and needs review by a validation operator.
Allow empty field if other options are chosen
If selected, allows an empty field to be valid; otherwise, the empty fields are marked as invalid. (Default: Clear)
This option is only available if one of the following options is selected: Check for minimum length, Check for maximum length, Restrict allowed character set or Define allowed characters.
